BMWotD — 1984 Albina B9 3.5

It’s been a while since I posted a BMW of the Day, and this one caught my fancy. Price; stratospherically out of reach at $39,990. But for this particular example, it’s probably worth it. An extremely well done restoration, and it doesn’t look like it’s been driven much at all since then. Cars are not made for sitting in garages looking pretty, but I’d be afraid to drive this one. Part of me would totally do the Ferris Beuller thing with it, but Cameron would be there holding me back, big time.

Enough of my blabbing; I don’t need to extol the virtues of the e28 platform any more than I already have, and Alpina has already been discussed as well (although this one doesn’t have the super-go-fast turbo option), so let’s just jump to the gallery, shamelessly borrowed from the dealer, Enthusiast Auto Group. I don’t think they’ll mind me spreading the word around a little more.

*New Arrival* Graphite Metallic over Alpina Cloth Interior, Meticulously Owned & Maintained, Award Winning, Alpina B9 3.5, No. 436! A Truly Impressive Show Car that performs in Every Level of the Driving Experience! A Well Documented Example since importation into the US in 1984. Featured in Bimmer Magazine during 2003 and in the December 2012 edition of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car Magazine.

Virtually every major system on this car is either new or rebuilt, with all cosmetic appearance items being model correct with original Alpina B9 components and a period-correct Blaupunkt Ventura CD player installed.

Historically, The B9 was the first Alpina produced vehicle based around the E28 chassis. Production ran from 1981 through 1987 and offered an Alpina tuned 3.5L BMW straight six sending power through a Getrag 5-Speed Manual Transmission. The B9 was further enhanced with progressive rate springs and Bilstein gas dampers, 16” Alpina Wheels, larger front brake rotors, and Alpina designed Front & Rear Spoilers. The interior received a full makeover including Recaro Sport Seats finished in striped Alpina cloth.

This fine example represents one of only 500 Alpina B9 ever produced, and it has been previously owned by a number of prominent BMW CCA Members.
