A Unique Gift for Children and Adults! An Optical Illusion of You! — Turn Your Head

BoingBoing had a blurb on this yesterday; cool idea, but this outfit is a little pricey at $150 a piece. I would think you could do the same by following the instructions on the site for taking a profile photo, then use Photoshop to convert that to a turning template. Take that to a woodshop (hello Bud!) and you’d be almost there.

Might have to try this sometime.

My Utmost for His Highest

Monday, November 7th, 2005

Here’s a free daily devotional; Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost for His Highest. I’ve been using it for a devotional for a while now, and enjoying it. Some of the days are like getting a cavity drilled though; hard teachings. They’re tough to accept, but often necessary.

Yvonne & I just joined a new small group that is using Utmost as a discussion guide. Should be good.

Wubba Wubba Wubba

Wednesday, October 5th, 2005

Wubba Wubba Wubba is a web presence run by Pat Rooney, first cousin o’ mine.

Pat is a graphics guy, living in Hawaii (I guess somebody’s gotta live there!) and does a fair bit of photography on the side. Lots of nice photos.

Pat also hosts a page for Tim. Tim is the host of an African music show that is broadcast on NPR in Colorado, and has mp3 files of his show stored there. Neat stuff!

Wikipedia

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

Just to ensure that anybody visiting my site knows the facts, Wikipedia rocks.

I got to talking with a couple of the guys at work about encyclopedias today and mentioned Wikepedia; they had never heard of it. I was aghast. Everybody who wants to know about anything needs to know about Wikipedia. That’s all there is to it.

Then there’s also Wiktionary, Wikibooks, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikispecies, Wikinews Meta-Wiki, & Commons.

Them’s some busy elves making all that magic.

The Commonly Confused Words Test

English Genius
You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 93% Expert!

You did so extremely well, even I can’t find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don’t. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you’re not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

I bet you say that to all the boys!

Kiddie Records Weekly

Saturday, August 6th, 2005

Kiddie Records Weekly hosts mp3 downloads of classic kids’ records, a new one every week.

Remember records? The things that look like big black CD’s with a too small hole in the middle? I still have a good-sized collection of albums at home (but no working turntable right now). Once I pulled an album out to play it, and Ian — who was 5 or 6 at the time — said, “Wow! That sure is a big CD!”
