Speaking of Rush Limbaugh, he announced on his show this afternoon that the letter sent to his syndication partner asking him to “publicly repudiate” the comments Rush made on the radio in regard to “phony soldiers”, is being auctioned on eBay.
Up for auction is the original letter signed by 41 Democrat senators. This historic document may well represent the first time in the history of America that this large a group of U.S. senators attempted to demonize a private citizen by lying about his views. As such, it is a priceless memento of the folly of Harry Reid and his 40 senatorial co-signers.
Mark Mays of Clear Channel Communications instead gave the letter to Rush, and now Rush is thumbing his nose at the Dems by auctioning it off, with the proceeds going to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. The letter would be a collector’s item if only for the signatures on it, but because the letter itself is such a low point for political discourse in this country… That makes this a huge, huge deal. Members of the US Senate, knowing full well what it is that was said, chose to distort the facts and attempt to smear the reputation of a private citizen. The call in question has been well publicized before and after Reid’s antics on the Senate floor, and can easily be found on YouTube, but that didn’t stop their attempt to smear Rush. McCarthyism is alive & well in the Democrat-led US Senate in 2007, except instead of dredging up charges of being a Commie, Reid & the Dems are smearing people trying to make them look like they are badmouthing the troops. That’s very ironic given the fact that so many Dems come out and bash the troops, the military leadership, and the entire Iraq war effort at every opportunity. If you support the troops, Mr. Reid, don’t give aid & comfort to the enemy by calling the war effort a failure.
I checked the auction right away when I heard about it, and there were no bids on it & it’s a restricted auction, and all bidders need to be preapproved before their bids can be accepted & but within a few hours the price was up to $5,600. With six days to go, it’ll be really interesting to see how high the bids go. I put a bid in on it ($200), knowing that I’d get outbid right away, and never did get a response; I’m guessing they had several bids way over that by the time they got to my request. The preauthorization business is to ensure that no Democrat staffer ends up as the winning bidder, which would possibly happen if Reid et al decide they’d like this little episode swept under the rug.
I grabbed the jpeg images of the original letter from the auction page; you can see them by clicking on the thumbnails below.
Update: I just checked the auction this morning, and the price is up to $45,000. And there’s still 4 days to go. Can you say “wow”? I did. Wow! Also, Rush has pledged to match the amount that the letter sells for to double the money going to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. He’s also challenged Sen. Reid and the other signatories to do the same; no response from them, surprise, surprise.
Holy Schnockers! Still 20 hours to go on the auction, and bidding has topped $500,000! scratch that; I hit refresh two minutes after checking the price, and there is now a $750,000 bid on it! There appear to be two bidders duking it out right now. y***t had the $500k bid; that was topped by d***r’s $511k bid, which was subsequently topped by y***t’s $750k bid. I won’t be surprised if the thing tops $1.5 million by the time it’s done!
When "Dingy Harry" Reid and the U.S. Senate turned away from the business of the nation to instead smear a private citizen, forty-one of them sent a letter demanding the "repudiation" of their inaccurate interpretation of Rush Limbaugh’s comments about Jesse Al-Zaid (a.k.a. Jesse MacBeth) and other "phony soldiers" who falsify their service. This letter was delivered to Mark Mays of Clear Channel Communications, Rush Limbaugh’s syndication partner, and widely quoted in the Drive-By Media. Up for auction is the original letter signed by 41 Democrat senators. As such, it is a priceless memento of the folly of Harry Reid and his 40 senatorial co-signers. The entire proceeds of this auction.. the entire high bid… will be donated to The Marine Corps – Law Enforcement Foundation, a registered charity which provides financial assistance to the children of fallen Marines and federal law enforcement officers. Rush Limbaugh serves on the Board of this organization and has been active on its behalf. All costs of this auction will be paid by the seller… every dollar of your winning bid will go to this charity, which has to date distributed over $29 million. Rush first publicly displayed this letter on the night of October 11th during a speech in Philadelphia, having a security operative carry it on stage, with the letter itself safely encased in a Halliburton Attache case handcuffed to the agent’s right wrist. Included in this auction is that same Halliburton briefcase, as well as a personal letter from Rush Limbaugh, thanking the winning bidder for his donation. The special handcuffs may not be distributed outside of law enforcement and security officers, and thus are not included in this auction. As winning bidder, you get:
